This course will focus on an examination of the following functions.
1. To understand how to match phonics and pronunciation teaching through songs and nursery rhymes.
2. To recognize how to do the instruction of vocabulary and sentence patterns through songs and nursery rhymes.
3. To apply instructional concepts into designing interesting activities through songs and nursery rhymes.

成績評量方式補充說明   
1. Attendance is required. After the fourth absence, you will not have any grades for all the work in class. You will get whatever grade you have at that point for the course.
2. Attendance will be taken ten minutes after the bell rings. Each hour (Two hours) of absence will result in a 0.5 (1)-point penalty of the participation grades. If you are ten minutes absent during class without an acceptable reason and proof, you are counted as being absent.
3. This policy will be implemented from the first day of class. If you register after day one, you will be considered absence for any class you miss before you register. If you don’t show up on day one, you are absent for that day.
4. The three situations: 6 leaves / 1 unexcused absence and 3 leaves / 2 unexcused absences will be equal to losing the chance of the final exam.
5. If you do not contribute to the group work or are absent for the exam or the group presentation, you will be given a grade of zero.

Requirements:
1. Please follow the format for the printout assignment. Each part of not following the rule will lose 10% of the grade.
2. You need to hand in or upload the assignment to the e-course by the required time. Late work will get 70% of the total grades. The make-up work for the worksheets will get 70% of the grades offered.
3. From the second week on, you will need to sit on a fixed place for the whole semester.
4. Everyone needs handouts for the course. If you forget to bring one, you will lose 0.5 total grade of the course each time. Handouts fee: $60.

A. In each class, you need to design and do some group activities related to the target song, chant or nursery rhyme. Think about how you can adopt the song, chant or rhyme to fit the specific course in some activities. You will need to complete some worksheets and group performance. Basically 4 people sitting together will be in a group for the whole semester. The first hour is basically the lectures, class demonstration, and the second hour will be group presentations.

B. For the mid-term individual task, you need to analyze a favorite song which will be suitable for teaching students, including basic information, the reasons, the special word use, sentence patterns, and special meanings inside that are worth learning and reflection of sharing. It's a three-minute report. You need to have 20-24 ppt pages put on the 5-6 pages of A4 paper, double-sided. Please choose your song by the deadline of 23:59 of Sep 23. Those who have chosen the song earlier will have the chance to present the song. The late comers will need to choose other songs to avoid repetition. The song should contain meaningful message, not just a lot of repetition.

C. For the final four-member-report, you need to teach two students under junior high a course, using songs and chants, etc. for 40 minutes. Use a lesson plan format we learn in class and design a lesson plan with activities of phonics, vocabulary, sentence patterns, culture and all the words that you will use or say to the child and a paragraph of reflection. You need to record the whole teaching process. You need to give me the lesson plan according to the format on December 19. Each member needs to teach 10 minutes. On the final report day, each group has 20- minute long of a report, showing 8-10 minutes of the edited recorded film in class and 10 minutes to talk about how you design the lesson. Each member talks about 2 minutes of the teaching (2 minutes of showing the film.) Each group has 32 pages of PPT, put on 8 double-sided A4 paper. Every member has 7 pages of teaching and 4 pages of cover, ending, work distribution and reflection, given to each member to finish. You need to comment on other groups’ presentation and write comment sheets on the day of mid and final report.
