課程目標   Learning Objectives
This course will focus on an examination of the function of English passages, an interpretation of the intention of speakers, and an analysis of the organization and style of authors. Strategies taught in this course include: guessing meaning from context, increase listening and speaking ability, understanding meaning, making predictions in listening and making inferences. This course will also focus on listening and speaking. Students will be encouraged to express themselves on topics related to the texts and write reaction in English. They can learn more listening strategies and communication skills and improve their listening and speaking skills by doing group discussion and presentation. The most important is that students need to learn to organize their ideas and then express themselves clearly and effectively in English.

成績評量方式補充說明
1. Attendance is required. After the fourth absence, you will not have any grades for all the work in class. You will get whatever grade you have at that point for the course.
2. Attendance will be taken ten minutes after the bell rings. Each hour (Two hours) of absence will result in a 0.5 (1)-point penalty of the participation grades. If you are ten minutes absent during class without an acceptable reason, you are counted as being absent. Within each unit of ten minutes of lateness, you will lose 0.1 point, so if you are 12 minutes lateness you will lose 0.2 point, and so on.
3. This policy will be implemented from the first day of class. If you register after day one, you will be considered absence for any class you miss before you register. If you don’t show up on day one, you are absent for that day.
4. The three situations: 6 leaves / 1 unexcused absence and 3 leaves / 2 unexcused absences will be equal to losing the chance of the final exam.
5. If you do not contribute to the group work or are absent for the exam or the group presentation, you will be given a grade of zero.

Requirements:
6. Homework should be done at home, revised and then you may pose questions to be answered in class. Hand in the revised work in the following week, if required. Please follow the format for the printout assignment. You need to upload the assignment to the e-course by the required time. Each part of not following the rule will lose 10% of the grade.
7. Each person needs to present, answer or ask Q voluntarily for a few times in order to get the points for the performance on participation, worksheets and discussion.
8. From the second week on, you will need to sit on a fixed place for the whole semester.
9. The make-up work for the worksheets or homework will get 70% of the grades offered.
10. Everyone needs a textbook for the course. If you forget to bring one, you will lose 0.5 total grade of the course each time. Handouts fee: $20.
