This course will focus on an examination of the following functions.
1. To understand how to match phonics and pronunciation teaching through songs and nursery rhymes.
2. To recognize how to do the instruction of vocabulary and sentence patterns through songs and nursery rhymes.
3. To apply instructional concepts into designing interesting activities through songs and nursery rhymes.

成績評量方式補充說明   
1. Attendance is required. After the fourth absence, you will not have any grades for all the work in class. You will get whatever grade you have at that point for the course.
2. Attendance will be taken ten minutes after the bell rings. If you come later, you are absent. Do not come to give any excuse. Each hour (Two hours) of absence will result in a 0.5 (1)-point penalty of the participation grades. If you are ten minutes absent during class without an acceptable reason, you are counted as being absent.
3. This policy will be implemented from the first day of class. If you register after day one, you will be considered absence for any class you miss before you register. If you don’t show up on day one, you are absent for that day.
4. The three situations: 6 leaves / 1 unexcused absence and 3 leaves / 2 unexcused absences will be equal to losing the chance of the final exam.
5. If you do not contribute to the group work or are absent for the exam or the group presentation, you will be given a grade of zero.
Requirements:

1. Homework should be done at home, revised and then you may pose questions to be answered in class. Hand in the revised work in the following week, if required. Please follow the format for the printout assignment. Each part of not following the rule will lose 10% of the grade. 2. You need to upload the assignment to the e-course by the required time. No late work.

3.Each person needs to present, answer or ask Q voluntarily for a few times in order to get the points for the performance on assignments, discussion and reports.
4. From the second week on, you will need to sit on a fixed place for the whole semester.
5. The make-up work for the worksheets will get 70% of the grades offered.
6. Everyone needs handouts for the course. preparing for a color pencil with at least 6 colors. If you forget to bring one, you will lose 0.5 total grade of the course each time. Handouts fee: $50.

A. In each class, you need to design and do some group activities related to the target song, chant or nursery rhyme. Think about how you can adopt the song, chant or rhyme to fit the specific course in some activities. You will need to complete some worksheets and group performance. Basically 4 people sitting together will be in a group for the whole semester. The first hour is basically the class demonstration, and the second hour will be presented by groups.

B. For the reader’s theater task, you need to design a 4 to 6-people group show involving songs, chant, rhymes, dance, action etc. in a musical film or readers’theater. You need to create the lyrics and gestures in class.

C. For the mid-term individual task, you need to analyze a favorite song which will be suitable for teaching students, including the reasons, the special word use, sentence patterns, and special meanings inside that are worth learning and sharing. It's a three-minute report.You need to have eight ppt pages put on the 2 pages of A4 paper, double-sided. Please choose your song by the deadline of 23:50 of Oct. 11. Those who has chosen the song earlier will have the chance to present the song. The late comers will need to choose other songs to avoid repetition. The song should contain meaningful message, not just a lot of repetition.

Choose a popular song for YLs in English. Analyze the language structures, vocabulary, and expressions used in the song. Then do the following:
a. Describe how you would scaffold students' understanding of the song.
b. Develop a fun activity or game using the song that also encourages learners to notice the grammar without teaching it explicitly.
c. Create an activity that encourages learners to use the language found in the song by applying that language to a real-life context.
d. Describe some follow-up activities for the song that will introduce learners to an English- speaking culture, the students' native culture, and other international cultures.


D. For the final four-member-work report, you need to teach a child under junior high a course and the course will integrate with some parts of using related songs and chants, etc. for 40 minutes. You need to record the whole teaching process. Each needs to teach 10 minutes. You need to give me the lesson plan according to the format on December 14. On the last class, show about 5 minutes of the edited recorded film in class and talk about how you design the lesson. You need to design a lesson plan with the related materials and activities and all the words that you will use or say to the child.
Design a lesson plan that incorporates the elements in Activity 4d. Designate the student population and the setting. Use a lesson plan format you are familiar with or one from the lessons we learn on lesson planning. It's about 13 minute long. Each talk about 2 minutes of the teaching (1-minute of the film.) Each needs a paragraph of reflection. There are 16 pages of PPT, put on 4 double-sided of A4 paper. Everyone has 3 pages of teaching and 4 pages of cover, ending, work distribution and reflection, given to each member to finish.
***. Owing to the unpredictable situation of pandemic, you need to prepare for camera lens鏡頭 and microphone for your desk computer or use a laptop or a cell phone with them in advance before the school opening day 9/13. Starting from the first day, we may need to use the on-line style of course learning, depending on the government’s regulations. If you don’t have either of them during the class, each time you will lose 10 points of the total grades of the course.If we have on-line course, you will need to go to 教師公告 in the e-course to download website address of Google Meet and everyone needs to join in the line group on the first day. Use your real name in Chinese for your identity.
