課程目標   Learning Objectives
Advertising in English is about learning basic knowledge of current linguistic forms of advertising and cultivation of application of advertising language. This course combines the advertising application activities with theory and practice, and requires the following content. First, commercial is an important expressive method, which helps to understand language, so understanding the advertising language is important. Second, learning the analytical ability of advertising language helps to understand appropriate linguistic phenomena and avoid similar errors. Third, learning correct language in advertisement assists the application in the advertising service, so that practice can be applied with the theory and make the students’ advertising knowledge develop better and improve their life style of using products. After taking the course, students may improve their oral expressive ability and translation skills. They may also actively get in touch with more types of materials in learning English. Students may learn to cooperate with others more passionately after doing group tasks and a final report.

成績評量方式補充說明   
1. Attendance is required. After the fourth absence, you will not have any grades for all the work in class. You will get whatever grade you have at that point for the course.
2. Attendance will be taken ten minutes after the bell rings. If you come later, you are absent. Do not come to give any excuse. Each hour (Two hours) of absence will result in a 0.5 (1)-point penalty of the participation grades. If you are ten minutes absent during class without an acceptable reason, you are counted as being absent.
3. This policy will be implemented from the first day of class. If you register after day one, you will be considered absence for any class you miss before you register. If you don’t show up on day one, you are absent for that day.
4. The three situations: 6 leaves / 1 unexcused absence and 3 leaves / 2 unexcused absences will be equal to losing the chance of the final exam.
5. If you do not contribute to the group work or are absent for the exam or the group presentation, you will be given a grade of zero.
6. An extra 0.1 point or more grades will be given for each voluntary response or performance in class. (the maximum is 5%). Each time of absence or lateness for 10 minutes would cost 1 point of total grade.
7. final report (presentation: 15%, ppt 10%, Written commercial proposal design word 10%)

Requirements:

1. Homework should be done at home, revised and then you may pose questions to be answered in class. Hand in the revised work in the following week, if required. Please follow the format for the printout assignment. Each part of not following the rule will lose 10% of the grade. 2. You sometimes need to upload the assignment to the e-course by the required time. No late work.
3.Each person needs to present, answer or ask Q voluntarily for 5 times in order to get the points for the performance on discussion and tasks.
4. From the first week on, you will need to sit on a fixed place for the whole semester.
5. The make-up work for the worksheets will get 70% of the grades offered.
6. Everyone needs handouts for the course. Handouts fee: $60.
7. In each class, you need to design and do some group activities related to the target ad assignment. In some activities you will need to complete some worksheets and group performance. Basically 4 people sitting together will be in a group for the whole semester.

Guidelines for the final report
1. Form a group of 4-6 people (may be adjusted based on the class size)
2. Design a commercial film to introduce the English Department (or a designed product) (If you are not English major, you can choose to make a commercial film of your department or our school).
3. The commercial film should be made into a video with subtitles, pictures, dramas, music in a story (about 6 minutes).
4. For the presentation, you need to make a ppt to introduce your commercial and design concept (about 10 minutes and everyone needs to talk for about 1.5-2 minutes), and play the commercial video to the class.
