課程目標 Learning Objectives
|
|
This introductory course covers the literature of the Colonial and Revolutionary periods and of the United States from his founding to 1900. Our reading will focus upon canonical works of fiction, including major authors like Irving, Bryant, Hawthorne, Poe, Melville, and James, as well as some works of non-fiction—for instance, Franklin, Paine, and Thoreau. In addition to literary texts, we will devote time to historical developments. We will also briefly examine the arts of this period, mostly to explore how they are generally derivative from European trends.
