This book contains topics that introduce news English from various angles, including an Introduction to news English, news media in detail, and news articles and activities. There are different types of authentic English news articles in this book, covering politics, finance, economics, business, science, technology, environment, health, medicine, sports, entertainment, life, travel, education, crime, and war. This book aims to teach you about news English. As you read this book, you will learn new vocabulary and styles of news English, be able to read, understand, and talk about news in English, and also improve your reading speed and comprehension skills when reading English newspapers, articles, and magazines. It provides discussion questions focused on the introduction to news features as well as vocabulary studies. These preview exercises will help you understand the special usages, structures, elements, and arrangements of English news articles.

Requirements:
1. From the first week on, you will need to sit on a fixed place.
2. The assignment will be related to the content of the textbook and some outside readings (special news of various topics) in the handouts. You may need to report the news and prepare two questions for class discussion (related to the topic that you are assigned).
3. The midterm will be related to the content of the textbook and the handouts that are given in class (words, phrases, sentences, or meanings, etc).
4. In class we will have lectures about news reading, discuss newspaper or Internet articles and watch or listen to some radio or video programs about news.
5. Point 1 of class participation and discussion will be deducted for one absence (10 minutes/50 minutes late will be counted as one absence). Three times of absence will be taken the chance of the final exam.
6. Handout fees: $15
7. There is a report section about comparing different types of news and reflection.
Find a news report on the newspaper, one on the TV film (features), one in the editorial and compare the various features of the three sources. Four members are chosen for a group work. You need to make a word file, a ppt file and report your findings. Each one needs to report a part of your final paper.
