課程目標   Learning Objectives
This course is a continuation of the first semester writing course. The focus shifts away from grammar and towards style. We will study four paper types: explanatory, descriptive, narrative (summary in this case), and cause/effect. Although we will discuss conditionals, a grammar problem, our stylistic focus will be clarity (concise writing) and the avoidance of overstatement and unsupported generalization. Skills like quotation, paraphrase, and summary of sources will be conducted; these skills are preparatory to Composition III and IV next year in which they will be employed in actual research projects. The subordination structure of topical paper organization will get close attention as well.
