課程目標   Learning Objectives
This course will focus on an examination of the function of English passages, an interpretation of the intention of speakers, and an analysis of the organization and style of authors. Strategies taught in this course include: guessing meaning from context, increase listening and speaking ability, understanding meaning, making predictions in listening and making inferences. This course will also focus on listening and speaking. Students will be encouraged to express themselves on topics related to the texts and write reaction in English. They can learn more listening strategies and communication skills and improve their listening and speaking skills by doing group discussion and presentation.

成績評量方式補充說明   
***Attendance is mandatory. You are responsible for attending every class meeting. Each hour of absence will result in a 1-point penalty. If you are late for 10 minutes, you will be considered absent. The three situations: 6 leaves / 1 unexcused absence and 3 leaves / 2 unexcused absences will be equal to losing the chance of the final exam. If you are absent for the group presentation, you will be given a grade of zero. Requirements: 1. The assigned text should be read before class. 2. Homework should be done at home and then you may pose questions to be answered in class. 3. Group discussion with personal presentation will be done in class. 4. No cheating is allowed in this course. 5. Each person needs to answer or ask Q voluntarily for 5 times in English (0.6 point for each, from the 6th time on, 0.2 point for each) in order to get the 15 points for the performance on assignments, discussion and reports. Those who attend certain activities related to English will be given extra points. 6. From the fourth week on, you will need to sit on a fixed place. 7. No late work. Handouts fee: $20. 8. The mid-term exam is Dubbing activity. For the final report, there will be a written and oral report section about a topic assigned in class and you have to make ppt and one question for the presentation.
