課程目標 Learning Objectives
|
This course is designed to help students understand Children’s English learning. It includes various topics such as principles and strategies for teaching English to children Phonics, classroom English, nursery rhymes & chants, picture books, readers theater, activities designing, and story telling on four language skills, holiday activities, children’s play and hands-on activities. After students have examined, discussed and practiced various topics for teaching various classes, they need to learn to integrate all the activities into the whole classroom teaching successfully.

***Attendance is mandatory. You are responsible for attending every class meeting. Each hour of absence will result in a 1-point penalty. If you are late for 10 minutes, you will be considered absent. The three situations: 6 leaves / 1 unexcused absence and 3 leaves / 2 unexcused absences will be equal to losing the chance of the final exam. If you are absent for the group presentation, you will be given a grade of zero. Requirements: 1. The assigned text should be read before class. 2. Homework should be done at home and then you may pose questions to be answered in class. 3. Group discussion with personal presentation will be done in class. 4. No cheating is allowed in this course. 5. Each person needs to answer or ask Q voluntarily for 5 times in English (0.6 point for each, from the 6th time on, 0.2 point for each) in order to get the 15 points for the performance on assignments, discussion and reports. Those who attend certain activities related to English will be given extra points. 6. From the second week on, you will need to sit on a fixed place. 7. No late work. Handouts fee: $50.
Guidelines for the final report: 1. Form a group of 4 people. 2. Design a lesson (40 minutes) to primary school students (3, 4 graders) with various kinds of activities learned in this class, such as songs, rhymes, phonics, storytelling. (with digital aides or teaching realia, etc.)
