課程目標   Learning Objectives
This course is designed to give students an understanding of theory, research and practice related to teaching students with emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD). While primarily directed toward students with special education needs, our discussions will also consider how these ideas and techniques can be useful for students who are at risk of developing EBD. Throughout the course students will work individually and in small groups to enhance the knowledge and skills to:
1.Define emotional and behavioral disorders under Taiwan MOE rules.
2.Determine the prevalence of the disability in the nation.
3.Discuss current law impacting students with EBD.
4.Identify key historical markers in educational practices for students with EBD.
5.Compare and contrast conceptual models offering a theoretical basis for the disability.
6.Describe present assessment approaches to identify EBD as an educational disability.
7.Describe functional assessment approaches that help teachers develop behavior intervention plans.
8.Discuss schoolwide positive behavior supports and discipline programs.
9.Articulate key features of contemporary school and community models to effectively educate and support community adjustment for students with EBD.
10.Discuss current research trend of EBD.

1.Class participation (20% of the final grade)
Study all class handouts and readings as assigned in the syllabus and be prepared to discuss in class. Students are expected to participate during large and small group discussions, showing evidence of having read the assignments. Class participation is important and includes but is not limited to attendance, quality of contributions to group activities and discussions, and interactions with peers during small group and class discussion. Students are expected to complete these activities in class and there will be no options for completing this work in alternate formats or sessions.

2.Research paper analysis (20% of the final grade)
Based on class readings, you will select one published research paper and analyze the content.

3.Final Project (60% of the final grade)
The final paper will include your research on one or more of the topics covered in the class. You are expected to synthesize information from the text and journal articles from the Website (and others you find in your research) on this topic. These readings should be reviewed, summarized, and well integrated into a topical paper that is about 10 pages of text in length. The paper should be double-spaced and citations/references in APA format. All assignments must be completed in a timely manner to receive grades.

Note: Plagiarism. Students need to use their own words when completing all assignments. A zero will be given for any assignment that is detected as being plagiarized. Students are subjected to a failing grade in the course.
