課程目標   Learning Objectives
1. To become more familiar with how a counseling institution develops, organizes and processes counseling works.
2. To increase skills in doing counseling/ family therapy with assessments, individuals, groups, couples and families.
3. To understand the many ethical and professional issues which are related to doing counseling/ family therapy; to include understanding the ethical codes of Chinese Guidance and Counseling Association, American Counseling Association (ACA), American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).
4. To increase ones understanding of the interfacing of the many agencies that serve individuals, groups, couples and families.
5. To further develop professional identity and refine ones professional role as a counselor/ family therapist.
6. To become more comfortable doing counseling/ therapy and in receiving feedback about ones work.
7. To become more flexible in working with individuals, groups, couples and families, i.e., to become more creative in the counseling/ therapy session.
8. To develop more mastery of your chosen model of counseling/ family therapy.
9. To more understanding of how humans change.

1. Community Service (社區服務): evaluation from the institution in which the student serves and from class instructor and book report 30%

四、作業:
1. Reading: It is expected for all readings in the textbook to be completed on time.
2. Students are expected to report a chapter in the class.
3. Schedule individual supervision with the instructor if needed.
4. Community Service(社區服務): Each student will be asked to volunteer 50 hours per week in a school (any type), community institution, or non-profit organization…etc (例如社區及非營利組織等)by using what they have learn in the class(應用課堂所學). All the services need to be proved by the instructor before the internship starts.
5. Case Presentation/ class discussion:the student will be asked to present cases and experience they gain from their community service work in order to improve their ability of self-introspect (增進自我反思能力). Prepare a one page brief handout for each case presentation with your videotape as well as your agent tests. The tape should be cued up! No excuse for any equipment problems. Each student should make sure the audio and video of the tape is clear before he/she demonstrates his/her session in the class.
6. Keep a log of all direct and indirect services. Practicum diary is highly recommended.
7. Be prepared to identify your model of individual couple and family counseling/therapy at the beginning of each class. Be prepared to clarify its assumptions, concepts and answer questions about the model.
8. Be ready to explore yourself. Be ready to be challenged of your value and personal experience.
9. Confidentiality is required.
10. Share your multi-culture experience in the class: Each student is asked to explore two multi-culture activities and share his/her experience in the class. No paper work is needed.
五、課注意事項: 2011-01-11
1. Regarding of H1N1 issue, you should stay home without any penalty when you suspect your physical condition. A mask or respirator is highly recommended when it is needed.
2. Confidentiality is required, not request.
3. You should make your own decision to see if you can attend to the class due to the bad weather, not waiting for the weather report or other person make a decision for yourself.
4. If you are pregnant, or your partner is pregnant, all your assignments in this class are optional.
5. Below 10% of your attendance will be fail in this class.
6. Safety is the most priority in this class including client visitation. You should not visit your client/or client family individually.
7. Food is NOT allowed in the class, you may eat food during the break time.
8. No drug and alcohol are allowed. You will be informed to appropriate authorities regarding your behavior.
9. Cell phone should turn off or in vibration model. You may want to use your cell phone outside the class area.
10. You are not allowed to sleep in the class.
11. You may want to discuss topics in the class, but chatting is not allowed. Each student is expected to listen to a student who is speaking, show his/her respect, and provide some feedback. Your grade will be influenced by making interruption in the class.
12. Each student should follow class and national exam rules such as time and related regulations.
13. Honesty in completing assignments is essential to the mission of the university and to the development of the personal integrity of the student. Cheating, plagiarism, or other kinds of academic dishonesty will not be tolerated and will result in appropriate sanctions that may include failing an assignment, failing the class, or being suspended or expelled. Suspected cases in this course may be caused a low grade.
14. Please make an appointment before you come by my office in office hour.
15. Every student has obligation to report his/herself or friend’s mental issue to counseling center or me when he/she is in need.
16. Group presentation: Each group will be required to present an approach in the class. Videotaping is highly recommended and if a group/student shows his/her counseling process or movie scenario segment by using video tape in the class, a certain bonus will be added to his/her grade or group grade.
