課程目標 Learning Objectives
|
|
The course focus is American literary developments in prose fiction, and to a lesser degree drama and poetry, from 1900 to the present. In addition to several canonical authors, we will also investigate examples of popular culture (film, science fiction, animation, and graphic novels) as well as a general survey of historical developments during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Because the course is organized chronologically, we will link historical problems (in their political, economic, and institutional applications) to specific works—to pursue this goal, we will again read sections from a general textbook of American history.

Examination 4 (historical concepts): 20%
Optional: Extra credit may be earned on the essay tests through a procedure which I will describe in class. There is some room for discussion on assessment—we’ll tackle this in the first week.
