課程目標 Learning Objectives
|
|
The first semester of American Literature covers the literature of the Colonial and Revolutionary periods and of the United States from its founding to 1900. The reading focus is canonical works of fiction (for example, Irving, Bryant, Hawthorne, Poe, Melville, Dickinson, Crane…) and some non-fiction (Franklin, Jacobs…) regarded as having literary value. In addition, we will regularly give attention to historical developments, and, to a lesser degree, the arts of this period. Examinations will be a combination of responses to topics—a selection from a list of topics—and general questions about related literary, cultural, and historical topics, all of which will be covered in class.
