課程目標 Learning Objectives
|
|
This course builds upon the formal approaches developed in the first semester; we will examine previously unstudied genres in prose, drama, and poetry. The time focus will mostly be on nineteenth- and twentieth-century literary works and film. We will also give some attention to popular culture. The general purpose is the methodical use and expansion of the critical vocabulary we developed in semester one to analyze new works and genres in their social and historical contexts. Our aim (and that of study in the Humanities generally) is to enhance analytic, evaluative, synthetic, and generative skills, generative in the sense of understanding complex cause and effect relationships. These are the true aims of studying in Humanities; its benefits should be obvious, even for those who do not intend to specialize in the field.
