課程目標 Learning Objectives
|
This is an introductory course for students who have little or no prior exposure to the theory and practice of Chinese-English translation. Since Chinese and English differ to a great extent in syntactical structures, we will start by exploring the grammatical conventions of Chinese and English, including positions of different parts of speech and other elements in Chinese and English sentences. Both theory and practice of translation will be covered in class, though the main focus will be on hands-on translation exercises both in and out of class. By the end of the semester, students are expected to be able to produce non-literal translations of sentences and short passages based on the knowledge acquired in class.
