課程目標 Learning Objectives
|
|
This course is a general survey of English Literature from its medieval origins to the Elizabethan period. The secondary emphasis is history, social and cultural developments, and the arts. Because prose fiction, generally understood as the short story and novel, was relatively undeveloped in this timeframe, the focus will be narrative and lyric poetry, the romance, and drama. This course is canonical in orientation, understandable in that the notions of folk, popular, or mass culture did not yet exist; however, when possible, we will incorporate film or other modern media to supplement our reading, including video to fill in some gaps for the longer works which we will only have time to read excerpts from.
