課程目標   Learning Objectives
This year-long course introduces students to the scientific study of human language. Students will explore the fundamental components of language, including phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. The course examines how language is structured, how it is acquired by children, how it varies across individuals and communities, and how it changes over time. Students will also learn about the relationship between language and the brain, as well as how language reflects and shapes human thought. Emphasis will be placed on developing analytical skills through the examination of linguistic data from a variety of languages.
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
-Identify and describe the basic components of language.
-Analyze linguistic data using core principles of phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics.
-Understand how language is acquired, how it varies, and how it changes over time.
-Recognize the relationship between language and cognition, society, and identity.
