課程目標 Learning Objectives
|
This course is an introduction to a range of western genres, beginning with oral tradition and moving to more complex forms. An equally important aim is to develop a working vocabulary of literary terms. Our goal is to be able to apply these terms, both to our texts and to works of literature generally as they are encountered. Social, historical, and cultural contexts will also be discussed as background to our texts, including general overviews of the ancient, medieval, and modern world and their major artistic contributions to western civilization. We will also begin to examine several themes or topoi. This course is foundational; its content is useful for later literature and popular culture courses.
