My feeling:
The lecture“ Understanding the rise of China ”is useful and necessary to us, because we, Taiwanese, are at a special and critical station with China. Also, we are have the similar civilization with it. We have no choice but to realize this rising state which is located neighborly.

I realize deeply the strong competition and rapid growth of China since last July I went travel to Shanghai and the beginning of this year to Beijing for cultural exchange. I was astonished by its economy, transportation, buildings, technology ……and so on.

The speaker provided three basic reasons that I have never heard to comprehend China why it can rise so quickly and gradually change the world. This issue is worthy of thinking for everyone because we all are live in the common world and were affected by any international change also.

In the speech , the speechmaker expressed “China”. In the world, there are different “East country” between “West country”. There are the most population in China . In many analysis, China is developing by very fast speed, and afterward China can surpass the “East counties”. Many people consider, the Confucianists culture is very special and it is the very important factor which is developing in the future.
I consider that “China is the very important position in the world in future.” There are many precious resources in China. These reasons become the advantages which China compete with other countries. After 5,000 years, the culture become the strong power of the country. In future, China is bound to become the country which have the deep influence very much.

We know that the world is changing with really high speed, China’s the growth of economic especially. “China is a civilization state, rather than a nation state.” To me, I am not familiar with above sentence, but I try to realize it.
The speaker commented that the sensitive issue of sovereignty between Taiwan and China. Though it is a really complex problem, we have to face it sooner or later.
Last summer vacation I went to Shanghai and Nanjing, and I went to Beijing with my classmates and teacher this winter vacation. When I was on the journey, I found there were so many skyscrapers. Also many are still being constructed rapidly. This surrounding is full of competition, and broaden my mind and vision.

This week, the speech's theme is "Understanding the rise of China ".I think although this theme is little boring to me, but it's really useful.
In the film, Martin says that most people think that modernity is a product simply of competition, markets and technology, but in his opinion, he thinks it is not. It is also shaped equally by history and culture. The speaker also analysis what differences between China and the West. The three building blocks are the civilization state, the notion of race and the nature of the state and its relationship to society.
After this speech, it takes me some things. We should find out our advantage and tune with the time. Let ourselves would not be out.

I was shocked by Martin Jacques’s viewpoint that he views China. We can’t use the western view and idea to understand China. Instead, we should use eastern view and idea to understand China. That’s important if we want to understand real China.
We know China’s economy is developing rapidly. China is a huge developing country, with a population of 1.3 billion people, which has been growing over 30 years at around 10 percent a year. And within a decade, it will have the largest economy in the world.
China is different from the western states because of some factors. China has different civilization. In other words, China, unlike the western states and most countries in the world, is shaped by its sense of civilization, its existence as a civilization state, rather than a nation state.
In addition, ninety percent of populations in china are the same race, Han. That is different from the western states and most countries in the world.
In a word, China’ economy will be located at the central point in the world in the near future. And many states will rotate around China. That is possible.

I think the lecturer ,Martin Jacques, wants to give most of American a signal or a warning. According to the projection and many projected data from BMP, he trys to arouse people one thing that is you should not belittle China's rising. He points out the difference between the two civilization and believes China will soon get beyond United State in the future. I would be delight to see "the future". But there is a terrible thing may be happen. If there is no state can match China, I think there may have the third wars of fight. Because the Unites State of Amarica believe in peace, hope and love. When U.S.A become the stronger state in the past, it won't invade other countries postively. However,we don't know what will China do when it become the stronger state in the future.

In fact, I don’t have any ideas after listening to the speech. As a Chinese(I mean from a Generalized view to say),I think I should know or understand more details about our traditions、civilizations、cultures and so on than a foreigner, like the speaker. But before I listening to this speech, I never think about the below ideas like these” the state of China is operated in its special way - it enjoys a very special significance as the representative, the embodiment and the guardian of Chinese civilization, of the civilization state. This is as close as China gets to a kind of spiritual role.”or” The Chinese view the state as an intimate -not just as an intimate actually, as a member of the family - not just in fact as a member of the family, but as the head of the family, the patriarch of the family.”
To ask myself, what’s the different between those self-righteous foreigners and me? Unfortunately, the answer is the same exactly.
This speech makes me not only realize the special perspective to explain the rise of the China, it also let me know that I shouldn’t interpret something on my own way, this is important!

I think everyone before listening the lecture should think about how much we know about China. That’s an interesting question. Because most of people around us either ignore or understand not so detailed. But why don’t we to face the reality? In fact, the China has grown in an amazing way that we didn’t predict. And this lecture, Martin Jacques: Understanding the rise of China, said that the development of China we should take it seriously and tried to say that we shouldn’t always explain other countries in the West aspect.

To me, the most impressive part of this lecture is the nation of race. The speaker said there is 90% the Han in China. And only 10% are several races. That means the Han have influence on almost of anything, including of authority certainly. That’s why we sometimes heard that the Uyghurs and the Tibetans were trying to separate from their control. That’s a bad thing to the developing coutry in particularly.

In Martin Jacques’ lecture, he mentioned the difference between China and western countries. Particularly, it is about their cognition in the meaning of “nation”. In China, according to its large amount of population, it can’t follow western countries’ to rule China. It is very hard to accomplish and that is why western countries can’t actually predict China’s future growth. However, there is one thing that also contributes the difference between China and western countries. It is the relationship between the enterprise and country. In western, the enterprise somehow will determine their country’s economic growth, but it occurs in opposite way in China. China will lead the corporation’s development. For example, Lenovo, is the biggest computer company even in the world, but China government will set its growth rate every year.
I agree that China has its own unique civilization; in China, so many different dialects are developed in these 2000 years , besides, it also have own custom! Face to the population of 1.3 billion, take the education system in university for example, it’s more competitive than Taiwan. The last, keep to receive the newest information about the world, be a knowledgeable person.

I feel a premonition that i have to do the homework until 12 o’clock every weeks. However, after I realize the Cinderella’s hurry-scurry,I hope to myself such terrible thing should not happen again.

In the beginning, Martin Jaoques used two chart to tell the world economy will change extremely by China development. Actually, this message is a unheeded advice to me,because I’m not sensitive to this kinds of news. I need to broaden a international vision quickly or be eliminated from the fierce global competitions.

Furthermore,Martin Jaoques pointed out that the Chinese civilization is defferent from the western culture. 90% of them think they belongs to the same race:the Han. It will cause serious wrong if we use the western eyes to see China.

And last,I am not really understand the context. It seemed audiences marvelled that the boat China created were bigger than others in ancient times. Moreover,Chinese also invented golf! It was a very humorous ending.

Good night,teacher:)

The speech's theme is "Understanding the rise of China ". I think it truth fact that China was developed in a high speed. China has big, huge, demographically and geographically, with a population of 1.3 billion people. What we often aren't really aware of is the fact that China is extremely diverse and very pluralistic, and in many ways very decentralized.

According to the projection that China will have a larger economy than the United States is 2020. China is a large economic region in the world. The world is being driven and shaped by the developing world, like China India. We should have attitude be towards this world that we see very rapidly developing before us is we must welcome, surely, this transformation.

Western countries like England changed their living way from agriculture to industry since 19 century and they also held the great power to arrange the rule of world. However, there had huge change in the world recently. We cannot but accept the fact that China is getting changing the world. I think that is a sign to warn us must face the rise of China. We have to rethink how we can do to respond and find the answer to make sure our position in the world. Now we all know that China plays a important role in the world and there is no doubt that China will may be a leader over the world in future. Do we already to face this challenge? No matter Western countries or Eastern countries all what we can do is improve our competitiveness.

Rescently, more information tell us that China is going to be very powerful. So when I heard this speech ,I don't have surprised. The speaker express many deep opinions to express why China is going to be stronger even exceed Europe and America. It is really useful.
However,as a taiwanese, China's existance is paradox. Many economical growth are depend on its development. We are the same "race" with China, this is the fact that we can't deny. On this advantage we can get some benefits. For example:the economic interflow between us is frequent. That is the result of the same race and similar culture. China has been the Oriented powerful powers. This is the trend, that we can't deny it.In cluding Western can not ignorer it.China's unique culture and tradition is its powerful backup. That can make it stronger and different from the pattern of development of Western. In the speech, he mentioned that the conception of race of China is like the cement to unify them. But also the conception lead to they don't respect other races. That must be their dirt and disavantage of China's development.
Any way,as a part of global village,to aspect and understand the fact is important. To understand it and to take advantage of it is Taiwan's manner to become stronger.I wish China can be more respect other races and more democracratic.

The speech's theme is "Understanding the rise of China ". The world is changing. This near for 200 years had been European and North America country leading this world.Their culture and the idea are attacking these country which and the nationality leads. But these countries are rising now, is in the leading positions the country to discover that originally they do not understand our culture and the idea. This brings huge worrying for them and panic.

Undeniably, China is having the world biggest economical market. In the future his every action and every movement, deep influence this world.Including arrogant western nations, is also compelled to understand they unknown culture and the idea. But Taiwan must repel this market? This question is worth our deep resonsideration.

No matter people live in Taiwan thought themselves are “Chinese” or not, all of us are influenced by Chinese civilization deeply-we are living in Chinese civilization!! However, do we really know what Chinese civilization is? I don’t think so. I have twice been travel to China; the true face of China was so different from Taiwan, that even a student like me, who learned “Chinese” for 10 years, still can’t adapted their way for life. Now, finally, I know how to explain what happened at that time: Chinese civilization has many systems, just unlike western civilization. The system I lived in is nothing more than one of the systems.
China state is rising today, thus, we should pay more attention on it than ever before. Besides, we lived so close to it.
